The study of history can never offer a cut-and-dried template for policy making, and historians are right to be wary of casual short-hand analogies such as ‘Westphalia’, ‘Munich’, and ‘Vietnam’. That said, can applied history, analysing today’s geopolitical challenges through the prism of humanity’s cumulative store of experience, offer a wider perspective and a more imaginative strategic vision?

The panel will include John Bew (Professor in History and Foreign Policy at King's College London), KC Lin (Deputy Director of the Forum on Geopolitics, Cambridge University), and Matthias Hesserus Mattias Hessérus (Director of Civilisation Studies at Axel and Margaret Ax:son Johnson Foundation)
